My Father's Ghost

By Janine Barlow:

This is not a wild or frightening experience, but it is a true one. When I was 17 years old, I saw my father's ghost walk across the floor of our living room in our home in Texas. I was eleven when he passed away from an embolism.

I had just exited the hallway about 10:30-11:00 at night and entered the living/dining area, which was indirectly lighted from the kitchen. It was not really dark, as the kitchen light was bright and the opening was large, and you could see all the furniture and everything, but as I focused on the living room, I saw my Dad right in front of me. I wasn't scared, since I knew him, and as I had always wondered if ghosts really existed, I told myself mentally to pay attention and get all the details, as this might never happen to me again.

He was fully dressed in what he used to wear at home when he was alive (this is unusual to me because he died in a hospital in another city, and I assume he was wearing a hospital gown at the time). He was looking straight ahead and even though he passed within three feet of me, he never saw me. He was staring straight ahead. I could make out his features very clearly, and he walked about 3-4 steps, passing right in front of me, and then dissipated. He was almost semi-solid, like a hologram. You could see him clearly, but I was also aware of a sort of transparency to him, as if you could see things on the other side of him if you tried to.

I was pretty shocked, and I went to the kitchen, where my mother was finishing drying the dishes, and choked out that I had just seen Dad walking in the living room. She didn't say anything for a few moments, then she said, "I've seen him, too." -- Which, I have to say, shocked me probably every bit as much as me seeing him. My mother was a practical, strait-forward woman, and she wasn't the type to believe in anything fanciful. It shut me up, and we didn't discuss it after that.

If I had to say what surprised me the most, after reflection on it, it would probably be that he was so clear and detailed, not as much wraith-like. And the fact that he seemed unaware that I was even present.

I wish now I had discussed it with my mother and heard her accounts, but she is deceased now and that is no longer possible. I recently wondered if there is a website where people who have truly experienced these things can go to compare their experiences and see if what they have in common. With people with like experiences, you at least wouldn't be worried that they would have doubts that it could even happen. If you know of such a website, I would appreciate your input. Thank you.

It could be a Residual Haunting? Maybe that's the reason he didn't look at you? It could just be the past repeating itself...

I saw my dad's ghost too! He died from a heart attack at an early age. He called out my name several times. I told my mom and she was spooked and said nothing. She isn't the type to believe in ghosts and spirits and psychics and clairvoyants and such. But then one day a few months later I went to the bathroom and came out and went back to the living room and mom said "you and Dad were talking really loudly in the hallway" and I froze. She froze too when she realized what she had blurted out. I wasn't talking to anyone. So she had heard him too. We looked at each other for a long moment and never talked about it again. Both of us were spooked. And yes I have heard my dad's voice grumbling and muttering to himself about his former coworkers whom he couldn't stand when I was home alone. yes it has happened repeatedly. Crazy!

I have seen my father as well. He died from cancer when I was around 8 years old. When I was 12, I was home alone because my mom had taken my brother to baseball, and I had to look after the new kitten we had gotten. I heard some strange noises so I leave my room to find the kitten hissing and growling into my moms bedroom. My other cat, which was around at the time of my father's death, was standing there meowing. I turned around and froze, because my dad was standing there. I only saw him from the torso up, and he was wearing the suit he was buried in. I think what freaked me out the most was he was waving at me. I stayed downstairs the rest of the time till my mom got home, but she didn't really believe me. I haven't had an expierence like that in a while, although there are certain things that will happen around the house like hearing footsteps coming up and down the stairs when no one is home, doors opening and then closing a second later, a hand appearing and touching my friend's shoulder. About an hour ago, I saw him again. It was around midnight, and I was down in the kitchen making a snack because that's what teenagers do at midnight. I heard someone walking by and thinking it was my mom, I called out. I was wrong. It was my dad. He didn't acknowledge me this time like he did the first time, but I did hear him stop by the door to the kitchen to look in. I think he's back because I'm leaving for college soon...maybe that, or he's mad I got a tattoo for him.

Lucky. I wish i could see my mum once more and hear her slippers drag across the carpet and wake up to her good morning songs. Right, on holiday in Spain my Dad was half asleep in his room and he sed he woke up and just sat thinking but then he heard someone say "Dad i know its early but im coming for you" he thought it was me and was gonna tell me to go away. He turned round nd no one was there.

I recently seen my father as I had just finished diiner out at a resturant. His brother had just passed away several days before this happened and I could see my Dad more clearly than hus brother-- they were semi transparent and he to was waving at me and I could see him saying "He Cant See Me". The hologram image is a great way to put it and I too was not scared and was welcoming this experience.

I took a selfie and I could feel my Dad watching..Kinda getting a giggle..I put the picture up and my twin called me to tell me don't you see Dad standing behind you..And there he was..In his normal clothes he wears..He passed in a hospital gown...Sleeves rolled up like he always did, wearing a baseball hat and glasses smiling because he knew I didn't see him but he knew I would later when I looked at the picture..That was my Dad..I'm so glad I saw him because it makes me feel like he's not gone because my heart is broken..
