Ghost at Murat House ca.1790

by: Derrick E Elleby Sr

Ghost in corner

My wife knows I watch all the ghost shows on T.V. So for my birthday this year she took me to St. Augustine, FL and scheduled a couple of the ghost tours. Well the times we were not doing a tour we did our own sight seeing of the city. There are a group of house gathered together in St. Augustine know as some of the oldest houses in America.

One of the houses had an famous resident the Murat House ca.1790. This house was occupied by Prince archilles Murat (Napoleon Bonaparte's nephew.) Well the wife and I were looking in the house just taking pictures of a time that passed. It wasn't until later on when I was looking at the pictures I came across this photo. In the corner it there seems to a vision of a man dressed in colonial clothing.

Home Sweet Funeral Home

by: Mortimer

I live and work in a mortuary in San Antonio, Texas. I have been interested in the funeral business since I was 12 years old. I have always had an "eerie" aura about me. If you would meet me, you would understand why. I was recently given the opportunity to become a resident of the Mortuary I now work for -- and being the weird kinda guy I am, I could not pass a chance such as this.

I moved in on a Thursday afternoon. With my girlfriend's help, I had everything moved in by the time night came. The funeral home was opened that night until 10:00 p.m. I figured I would go ahead and stay the night in my apartment there. My girlfriend always stays with me until about 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. That particular night, my bathroom was out of order so I was using the bathroom in the family room. My girlfriend was in the bathroom by the employee lounge on the OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE BUILDING.

On my way back to the apartment, I heard her scream.

I ran to the other side of the building to see what was the matter and she said she heard someone whisper her name. I told her it was OK and we headed back to the apartment. I was spooked, as was she, so we both went to her house to stay the night.

What a welcome to my new home, Right?

I returned the next night with the previous night's occurrence in the back of my mind. I stayed in the apartment, watching TV until about 2:30 (a.m.) when I went outside to smoke a cigar. In order to get outside, you must go through the hallway, then through the garage. My car was parked right outside the door to the garage. I was sitting on the hood of my car enjoying the cigar when I heard a loud "WHOOSH" come from inside the garage. This noise is normal when someone opens the door from the hallway into the garage. Mind you this was after 2:00 in the morning and there was not supposed to be anybody (living) inside the funeral home -- except for me.

I was petrified.

I had no place to go.

My keys were in the apartment and I was stuck.

I finally got up the gumption to open the door to the garage. As I opened it, I noticed that the light was off. I never turn off the light. Even if I'm leaving for the night. The only light filtering into the garage was that from the door to the hallway on the other side of the garage. When I opened the door, that door stayed open for a moment, then shut and I heard footsteps going down the hallway.

I'm kinda a big guy so you can imagine I'm about to have a heart attack here. I reach one arm in the garage and turn on the light. At that point, I ran to the hallway door next to the apartment. I thought maybe someone had broken into the funeral home. I had the alarm off because I was walking around in the building so I had no way of telling if anyone had broken in. I ran to my apartment, shut the door, locked it, ran to the phone and dialed 9-1-1. I told the dispatch what happened and she sent 2 units over within 5 minutes. In the mean time I set the alarm so if someone was in the building they couldn't get out without the alarm going off.

The police arrived and searched the building top to bottom and found no evidence of forced entry or anything missing. I knew then what it was. Now, every night, when I go home to the funeral home, I can walk through the hallway and feel the sinister presence of whatever is there. I just explain to it that this is not it's home, it's my home. And ask it to please leave my girlfriend and I alone.

We don't mean any harm to it. It pretty much leaves us alone now, but we can both feel its presence. I just wish the dead would Rest In Peace!

Shadow on the Wall

by: Withheld

I have told this story to people who were not there to witness the actual event and some look at me as if I am just telling a story to get a good laugh -- but I find nothing funny about it. Everything I am about to relate is true and I guess in some bizarre way I feel that by retelling this story to anyone who is willing to listen it will bring me some comfort.

On July 6, 1990, a high-school friend shot himself in the head with a rifle in a nearby local baseball dugout. The act shocked and saddened everyone, especially his parents, of course, who did not want to believe their only son would take his own life.

The days that followed his death were happening, for me, as if in a dream. Fearing this act would spark some sort of "chain reaction," the school counselors were sent in to help the students grieve and discuss their feelings of loss. Days went by and there seemed to be a cloud of despair and confusion hanging over our entire high school class. If he had lived, my friend would have graduated from high school with the rest of us that same year. When he died, he was two months away from his 18th birthday.

About a week after his suicide, I was visiting my best friend at the time, we'll call her Anne, in her home. We were both still very affected by the death of our friend and we began to talk late into the night about his possible reasons for taking his own life and how crazy and unexpected it was. We had been discussing the whole chain of events and basically trying to make sense of something we could not even imagine, when I suddenly became very uncomfortable talking about our deceased friend.

I was sitting at the time in a desk chair across from Anne who was sitting comfortably on her bed facing me. She was looking directly at me and could see the discomfort on my face. She assumed I was just overreacting and our discussion had gotten to me, so she stood up and moved toward the door of her bedroom and gestured in a sweeping motion with her arm for me to follow her into the kitchen down the hall. There was a single small desk light on behind me when she made this motion with her arm, so that when she moved, her body created a shadow on the wall.

This is going to sound ridiculous, and I am no Physics expert, but when Anne swept her arm up into the air, gesturing me to follow her, her shadow did not follow her arm. Instead, there was a strange kind of delay and I saw her arm move, and about 5-10 seconds later the shadow of an arm moved, mimicking the same gesture she had just made.

I of course, thought my eyes were playing tricks on me and ignored the shadow. And I would have kept it to myself if only Anne had not turned to me and asked, "Did you just see that?" I answered, "Yes!" -- and we fled out of the room and into the kitchen.

Anne's house was large and our frightened voices bounced off the columned walls, but nothing ever occurred after that. My friend Anne and I no longer speak and I am sure that if she knew I was relaying this story to strangers, she would think I was crazy, but I remember the death of our high school friend as if it were yesterday and I can't help wishing that the shadow we saw was indeed a sign from our friend, but I will never be sure. I write this story in his memory and in the hope that he is in a place where his problems have all been taken away.

Made me believe

by: imfromthe617

Back in 2004 I had moved into a two story house with my parents in Salem , MA. Knowing Salem's ghostly history, I was already teased about moving there. Turns out the house was built back in 1804 and included a "secret staircase" that the slaves would go into to hide from capture. And to top it off , I also found out that that the house also served as a medical center for wounded slaves... Great right ? Best believe I kept myself from snooping around becuase the house creeped me the hell out ! I actually never really believed in ghosts period untill I moved into this house.
Me and my brother's rooms were both upstairs and my parents was downstairs. I spent a lot of time in my room practicing on my drumset. About a month into living their I started to hear a light tapping sound every night. I tried to ignore it but it seemed to get heavier every night.
This is the night ill never forget right here. It was about 11 o clock at night and I was up listening to my ipod until I felt I was ready to fall asleep. I should probably add I was about 13 at the time and had a small night light. My eyes felt heavy so I started to fall asleep. I heard the tapping sound again but I once again tried to ignore it. As soon as I was Right about to fall asleep I heard a deep moaning sound almost like it was coming from a large man. This woke me up beacuse it scared the hell out of me. But that's not the problem... When I opened my eyes I found myself looking at a man looking down at me from the corner of the ceiling. It was wearing dark clothes almost like those of a pilgrim. He appeared to be crawling down at me. This man looked like he had a purpose to harm me. I lost my breath and couldn't even scream. I've never gotten so scared in my life. This thing was literally staring at me. I put my head under the covers withing the moment of seeing it , looked back and it was gone. I never beleived in ghosts up untill that night. Turns out the followng night my mother saw something as well.

We moved a week later.

No wonder the house was so cheap.....

My House

by: Laura E. Darby

I like to think that there are ghosts but I am not sure until one day a couple of months ago. I will explain: My brother was watching TV in the living room one day and he had the volume on low and he heard like a rustle in the back of the house. He and my brother got up to investigate because they thought someone might have got into the house. They checked all through the house and nothing, not any thing was out of place and they could not figure where the noise came from. A couple of days later my brother heard a man whistling in the house, I heard it the next day. My younger brother was 17 and he was home alone and he said he was watching TV, out of the corner of is eye he saw this figure of a girl standing there and when he turned to look nothing was there. One day last week my mom called me into the living room. I had just waked up and she said come quick and look at the porch swing. It was swinging by itself, and it was swinging big. She said look at the trees and the bushes out side and look down the street, the wind was not blowing it was still as ever. The swing slowed down and just stopped. I tried to shrug it off. I was by myself cleaning and went to put something in my brother’s room and shut their bedroom door. They have a hiding slide door that slides into the wall and it is very heavy and you have to manually open it. I was finishing the dishes and I heard this huge bang so I ran to the back of the house and my brother’s door was standing wide open. I shut it again and was very scared. I was home with my mom last Wednesday and we were cleaning and I went to shut my brother’s door and went to the living room. I went back not 5 minutes later to put some clothes away and the door was open, I said mom did you open the door and she hadn’t been back there. I was hot and turned the fan on and I went in yonder and came back and got mad and said why did you cut the fan off mom I am hot. It cut off by itself.

The Scary Encounter

by: Harihar

This incident took place about few years ago. I was on vacation to "Kumta", a small town in Karnataka; I stayed there at my Aunt's place. My Aunt's house is located near "Gazni" (a series of small lakes where you breed prawns). Since I had visited there for the first time I had the curiosity to explore the place.

Let me tell you unlike me, my aunt is little bit of religious type, so she strictly forbids me to go near lakes. When I asked her the reason why? She told me that the place is not so auspicious and she cut my question there.

During night it was about 9:30 pm after dinner I set out for a walk. I still remember that day, it was full moon day, moon light made a glittery appearance to the lake waters, which Ganzi in turn made a pleasant view and the cool breeze drove me straight to Gazni. There were distant street lights in the Gazni and the view was spectacular.

May be half a kilometer walk into the Gazni I started experiencing something unusual, cold breeze struck to my body gave me a chilling experience. In the silent valley as I was walking I heard the sounds of multiple steps behind me, I felt a group of people approaching me from my behind, I could hear laughs, their talks, but not so clearly. I suddenly turned behind, to my shock I see an old woman may be of 80's standing behind and there was no one else.

I felt as if I am almost fainted as I could clearly feel a group of people behind me, but leaving an old women no one else was there. She had a long white hair which was set loose, a big stick in her hand, she did not have front teeth; she was slightly smiling, and has bluish eyes. After seeing this I don't know how but I just screamed a bit. I felt like electric shocks going through my body. I could not move, my feet started trembling, I was there for about 10-15 seconds and then I started running straight to the highway. When I reached the highway, I looked back to see no one in about a kilometer long Gazni.

When reached home I told my aunt about the incident. She and my cousin scolded me for going to Gazni, pinched my chicks and send me to bed. At night I was awakened by something, and I felt as if I am almost glued to bed, I could not move my head to other side, I could not speech, neither could I open my eyes.

I started crying, hearing this cousin came running to my room and she called my aunt. They made me to sit on the bed and asked me why I was crying, I could not explain but just I was crying. They gave me water and then applied some paste on my fore head, chest and on my feet, of an herb called "Appatisaal". After that I felt better and felt a sleep. The next two days I suffered very high temperatures but recovered quickly.

Please help us

By: destiny

Back in 2004 my family moved into a 2 story house built back in the mid 1800's. the same night we moved in we started hearing noises. it would sound like children running up and down the stairs, scratching in the hallway downstairs and many other things. we would come home in the evening to find q-tips laid out in triangle patterns from our living room up to the bedrooms upstairs-(my children refused to sleep upstairs because the noises)- we came to find out there were two children that died in our house-but there was also another thing we never figured out what it was but it was EVIL my girls couldn't go to the bathroom alone without feeling threatened. after three years there we finally convinced my husband to leave that was a strange place and i'm never going back there

Paranormal Activity In My Bedroom

By: Lost_memory

Where to start? I'm an optimistic when it comes to the paranormal, I'd like to believe that there's an afterlife. Nevertheless, my mam, on the other hand, believes that there's something, and my dad believes there's nothing. Often when the family is together we watch paranormal TV with medians and most haunted places just out of curiosity.

Something occurred today that scared me slightly. I'll set the scene. I was in my bedroom (medium size) no mirrors, bunk bed with a sofa underneath, television, laminate flooring. I just had the ceiling light on and was sitting on the bottom of the bunk (that slightly dark when you sit under it). I was browsing the internet on my laptop that I do on a regular basis within my room when suddenly I spotted a 'bright white circle' no bigger than a few centimeters in the corner of my eye, I quickly reacted and looked as natural instincts do. Before I could focus on it, it faded away. It seemed like it drifted a bit and faded out after a second, or two. At this point my ears went high pitched, as if someone got a TV running.

I was nervous and unsure so I banged down to my parents for reassurance. I waited a second and looked around the room anxiously whilst being paranoid. My eyes were drawn to the curtains, I noticed that they were slightly shimmering a bit as if someone had touched it. No draft in the room, window was closed and door was shut tight. At that point, I forced my laptop off and wanted to get out of the room. I looked in the reflection of my LCD TV (that was off) and I could see a reflection of a small glowing white light. I span the gaming chair around (that faces the TV) and there was nothing. I thought it was my mobile at first, that I left on the chair, and that someone had sent me a text and that the screen had lit up. In surprise, when I rotated the seat, there was nothing. I then recalled leaving my mobile downstairs, so obviously it wasn't the light from the mobile phone. At this point I didn't want to move, I just wanted to leave the room. I shouted down again to my parents and my mam came up the stairs promptly. She was concerned and asked me what was wrong, in a quick reply not thinking straight I replied, "Nothing." I didn't really know what to say. I left the room immediately and used the downstairs PC to ask for some advice.

The history of my house? Well, we're the second residents to live there. The original residents went to an old pensioner's home prior to us moving in, so no one has died here. We've lived in the house for thirteen years and haven't experienced anything paranormal. My grandma used to live with us for several years, in the room I experienced the strange light in. However there was an upset and she left us, and soon after she left us she past away with unfinished business and a lot of family upset.

The only past experience I've had within the house is when I've been ill. I remember waking up one night and feeling disorientated. I can remember earring a faint voice repeat itself saying jargon. I can't remember precisely what it said, but it wasn't my voice, neither was it a relative's voice. I remember having something like 'long vision' where everything appeared up close. Really a strange experience, however I've always placed it down to being ill or lack of sleep. This has happened about three times over a period of seven years or more.

I've been stressed lately, so I resort to my room to calm down and isolate myself away from everyone and the University and that's getting on top of me. I'm slightly afraid to stay in the room. I want to go back and see if it will happen again but I need courage. At the moment, I think I'll sleep in the spare room. Advice is much appreciated.

Demon Family Relative

By: lexcove

I have a dad that lives in south Florida and my mom in north Florida. My dad is going out with a girl named C. And she has two kids, one girl A. And one boy B. So we were home alone because our parents went out on a date and we stayed home. Now my dad has a two story house and it's been in my family for over 100 years cause my great great grand parents built that house so you can guess how old the architecture is. So when my dad inherited it from my grandpa the realtor didn't know that we were family so he gave us a tour of the house like any other realtor. He told us that it was in good shape except that a girl had died there and that she had sexually abusive parents and she jumped off the railing of the second story.

So nobody else but me thought about what he just said. One of MY family members (it's a big family) had died from suicide so this isn't just a ghost it's a ghost related to me.

So once again A. B. And I were home alone and this is about three years after we got the house. My grandma had found an Ouija Board from when she was a little kid in her closet. It was old and falling apart but she gave it to me. So that night we brought it out and did the whole praying thing. We asked questions like "is anybody here?" no body answered. Eventually when we got up, forgetting to put it away the thing that points out the letters rises up slowly and starts banging constantly about six times. So we put our hands on it and asked it "who is this"? It pointed out Esther. So we asked who she was and she said she was my family. Creeped me out so we then asked how she died she and she said that she jumped off the balcony. We asked her why and she said because... And only because... So we asked what else? She said that they found her body in the bathroom which is downstairs.

Now this creeped me out so much cause I thought she had jumped down the balcony and died from the impact so how did she end up in the bathroom? So I wanted to stop but both A and B wanted to keep on going and they said maybe I can contact with her better since I am related to her. So we said if it would come back to life and she said no. We asked why and she said she was going to be with her family that's already dead but the devil said that she was beautiful and so he kept her. Now I wanted to stop cause I was about to pee in my pants!

So then the eye piece started circling constantly and I read online that means that a "portal" is being opened so before I could even put my hand on it. Autumn put her hand on it and if she got processed or some thing she said something very chilling. She said in a mutilated voice "I am your sister don't you love me like him!?!? So I threw the Ouija board and brought it outside and smashed it to pieces and threw it away.

Ever since then the experiences haven't been that bad. One time I was downstairs and I heard a noise as if some one fell... Etc.

So please comment. I will read your stories and reply.

Oh yeah and if you have any suggestions of what I should have done instead then comment and let me know.

My Father's Ghost

By Janine Barlow:

This is not a wild or frightening experience, but it is a true one. When I was 17 years old, I saw my father's ghost walk across the floor of our living room in our home in Texas. I was eleven when he passed away from an embolism.

I had just exited the hallway about 10:30-11:00 at night and entered the living/dining area, which was indirectly lighted from the kitchen. It was not really dark, as the kitchen light was bright and the opening was large, and you could see all the furniture and everything, but as I focused on the living room, I saw my Dad right in front of me. I wasn't scared, since I knew him, and as I had always wondered if ghosts really existed, I told myself mentally to pay attention and get all the details, as this might never happen to me again.

He was fully dressed in what he used to wear at home when he was alive (this is unusual to me because he died in a hospital in another city, and I assume he was wearing a hospital gown at the time). He was looking straight ahead and even though he passed within three feet of me, he never saw me. He was staring straight ahead. I could make out his features very clearly, and he walked about 3-4 steps, passing right in front of me, and then dissipated. He was almost semi-solid, like a hologram. You could see him clearly, but I was also aware of a sort of transparency to him, as if you could see things on the other side of him if you tried to.

I was pretty shocked, and I went to the kitchen, where my mother was finishing drying the dishes, and choked out that I had just seen Dad walking in the living room. She didn't say anything for a few moments, then she said, "I've seen him, too." -- Which, I have to say, shocked me probably every bit as much as me seeing him. My mother was a practical, strait-forward woman, and she wasn't the type to believe in anything fanciful. It shut me up, and we didn't discuss it after that.

If I had to say what surprised me the most, after reflection on it, it would probably be that he was so clear and detailed, not as much wraith-like. And the fact that he seemed unaware that I was even present.

I wish now I had discussed it with my mother and heard her accounts, but she is deceased now and that is no longer possible. I recently wondered if there is a website where people who have truly experienced these things can go to compare their experiences and see if what they have in common. With people with like experiences, you at least wouldn't be worried that they would have doubts that it could even happen. If you know of such a website, I would appreciate your input. Thank you.
